Report: Chelsea in ‘regular contact’ with Spurs-linked Ajax player

According to a report by The Athletic, Chelsea have been in regular contact with rumoured Spurs target Andre Onana over a potential summer move to Stamford Bridge.

Onana’s performances between the sticks for Ajax over the last couple of seasons have made him a wanted man across Europe.

Spurs are one of the clubs said to be targeting a move for the Cameroonian international as they look to bring in a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris (The Sun).

Previous reports have indicated that Chelsea are also keen to snap up the 24-year-old this summer (Mirror) and have recently conducted business with the Dutch giants following the capture of Hakim Ziyech.

The Athletic claim that the Blues could step up their interest in Onana, with the club said to be keen on finding a replacement for the error-prone Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer.

It is said that the Ajax number one would be available for around €30 million this summer.

Onana is reportedly keen on completing a move to Frank Lampard’s side but it is suggested that he may well end up staying at Ajax, with the Eredivisie outfit under no financial pressure to sell their stars despite the pandemic.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the number of areas across the pitch where we need reinforcements in, it would not make any sense to invest time and resources into a potential first-choice goalkeeper this summer. At a bare minimum, we need a centre-back, a right-back, a defensive midfielder and a striker this summer.

Reports also seem to indicate that we might be after another wide player or an attacking midfielder. So, we certainly would have to prioritise some positions over others. Given the inspired form Lloris has been in since the restart, a goalkeeper is certainly not a priority for us.
