Report: Chelsea lead Spurs in race for defender

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing German teenage sensation Armel Bella-Kotchap.

The Sun report that Spurs are one of several European clubs tracking the 18-year-old defender and are weighing up possible move in the summer.

Bella-Kotchap has had a sensational breakthrough season for VfL Bochum in Bundesliga 2 and his displays have seen the young defender being tipped for big things in the future.

Although the centre half only signed a new contract with Bochum last March, it is revealed that the German club are ready to listen to offers for the youngster at the end of the season.

It is claimed that they will demand around £6.5million for the teenager’s services.

The Lilywhites will have to beat out some heavy competition for Bella-Kotchap’s signature with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid, all said to be interested.

It is Tottenham’s London rivals Chelsea that are reportedly leading the race for the German, having already contacted the player’s representatives over a move to London.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fixing our backline has to be Jose’s priority in the summer and so it is unsurprising to see us being linked with so many central defenders. The emergence of Tanganga makes it unlikely that we would be in for a young centre half. I expect us to bring in someone with experience who can slot into the backline straight away and help fix our problems.
