Report: Chelsea make interesting Conor Gallagher decision as Tottenham circle

The Times have revealed that Chelsea have now decided that they will sell Tottenham target Conor Gallagher before June 30 to avoid sanctions from the Premier League.

The report points out that following Chelsea’s unprecedented spending over the last couple of years since their takeover, the club are now in serious danger of breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

It is alleged that they could become the third club after Nottingham Forest and Everton to be handed a points deduction and to avoid that possibility, they have to raise over £100m by June 30.

Chelsea plan to sell Conor Gallagher this summer

In order to ensure that they are able to offset their losses, The Times claim that the West London club have decided to cash in on both Gallagher and Reece James when the transfer window opens in June.

It is explained that with both the defender and the midfielder being homegrown, the entire fee that Chelsea receive from their sale will go down as trading profit in their 2023-24 accounts.

The report states that the reason the club have made this decision is partly because Gallagher is demanding ‘radically improved terms’ to sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

The publication adds that a number of clubs are circling over the 23-year-old, with Spurs and West Ham United named as the ones leading the race for the England international.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gallagher has clearly been a priority target by Postecoglou right from last summer. The reason Spurs have waited is that they are aware of Chelsea’s financial situation and their need to sell, with the Lilywhites hoping to land the midfielder for a cut-price fee closer to the June 30 deadline.

If the Blues academy graduate proves to be out of Tottenham’s reach, the North Londoners will likely turn to Morgan Gibbs-White, with Forest also having to sell some players before the same date to avoid further sanctions.
