Report: Chelsea make Spurs-linked defender their ‘number one target’

Tottenham Hotspur and Jose Mourinho are reportedly set for a defensive overhaul in the summer after inconsistent performances all season at the back (Express).

Long-term defender, Jan Vertonghen, could well leave on a free transfer at the end of this campaign, while fellow Belgian Toby Alderweireld has looked out of sorts of late.

However, the Lilywhites do still have the promising Davinson Sanchez and up-and-coming starlet Japhet Tanganga at the club.

Another player Tottenham have been linked with of late is RB Leipzig central defender, Dayot Upamecano, with the player recently hinting that he could move in the summer.

Arsenal and Spurs are apparently two clubs weighing up a move for the defender (Daily Mail). However, the Mirror have now updated the situation, claiming that Chelsea have made Upamecano their number one summer target.

Upamecano has already played 100 games for Leipzig in his short career, although he missed the first leg against Spurs in the Champions League last week (Wikipedia).
