TuttoSport have reported that Chelsea have to ‘watch out for Spurs’ in the race for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries in January.

Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a right wing-back in January (90 min), with Italian publications suggesting over recent weeks that Dumfries is Antonio Conte’s number one target (Rudy Galetti).

CMW.it reported that Chelsea were leading the race to sign the Netherlands international and this was subsequently backed up by Tuttomercatoweb, who reported that Graham Potter’s men were making a ‘strong’ push for the Inter star and were ready to launch an offer of €40m (£34.2m).

However, TuttoSport have now explained that the Blues might not have things all their own way, with Spurs also set to push for Dumfries’ signature.

The report asserts that Conte is not convinced by either Emerson Royal or Matt Doherty, and the North London club could thus launch a move for the 27-year-old.

The publication claims that the Nerazzurri are willing to cash in on Dumfries and would be ready to open negotiation at around the €30m (£25.7m) mark.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am confident that we will sign a right wing-back in January and it seems like Emerson is the most likely player to leave. At this point, Dumfries appears to be Tottenham’s top target but I would not rule out a surprise move from the club.

Conte has shown a willingness to covert wingers into wing-backs in the past, which is perhaps why he wanted Adama Traore at Spurs last year. I can potentially see Tottenham pursuing someone like Anthony Gordon as the Everton youngster has the attributes to thrive as a wing-back in Conte’s system.
