Report: Chelsea offered the chance to sign reported Spurs target

According to reports coming out of Italy, Chelsea could beat Tottenham to the signing of AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek before the close of the transfer window.

Piatek finds himself surplus to requirements at Milan after the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovich and the striker has been linked heavily with a move to Spurs since the start of the month (The Sun).

Sky Sports Italia reported on Sunday that the Polish international’s agent met Milan’s management to seek clarity about the striker’s future amidst interst from Tottenham.

However, according to a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by the Daily Mail), Milan have now offered Spurs’ London rivals Chelsea the chance to sign Piatek.

The report claims that the Italian giants have encouraged the Blues to bid for the former Genoa man, who they reportedly value at £25 million.

It is asserted that Frank Lampard’s side will move for Piatek if and when Olivier Giroud completes his transfer to Inter Milan.

With Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United all reportedly looking to sign a centre forward this month, it is no surprise that they are being linked with the same targets. While it is clear that Spurs have made an approach for Piatek, I believe the 24-year-old is likely to be an alternative option in case we fail to land our primary targets.
