Report: Chelsea in contract talks with Spurs-linked winger

Tottenham Hotspur may be set to receive a huge transfer blow after a report by Goal claimed that Chelsea have reopened negotiations with Willian over a new contract.

The Brazilian has previously signed a short-term extension with the Blues that runs until the end of the season.

Spurs had been installed as the favourites to snap him up when he becomes a free agent in the summer (Mundo Deportivo).

Previous reports indicated that talks between Chelsea and the winger over a new contract had collapsed (Football.London), with the 31-year-old himself admitting that he was unlikely to put pen to paper on a new deal with the club due to the two-year contract offered by Frank Lampard’s side (The Sun).

Goal claim that the club have reopened negotiations with the long-serving winger after he rejected an offer from an unnamed Chinese club.

However, it is said that the former Premier League champions are still only willing to offer Willian a two-year deal despite him wanting a three-year contract.

It is asserted that Frank Lampard is keen to keep the pacy wide man from the clutches of both Spurs and Arsenal.

This deal looked to be a certainty a couple of months ago given Willian’s desire to stay in London and his relationship with Jose Mourinho. However, it does appear as if the club are examining other wide options now with the likes of Ryan Fraser, Allan Saint-Maximin and Marco Asensio being linked with Spurs more recently.
