Report: Chelsea prepared to do business with Spurs on one condition

Chelsea are reported to be prepared to sell Olivier Giroud to Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer window shuts tomorrow evening.

The former Arsenal player has been linked with a shock move to Spurs with Jose Mourinho looking to bring in a replacement for the injured Harry Kane, however, they are reported to be only willing to sanction the sale if they are able to find a replacement for the striker.

David Ornstein confirmed the news via The Athletic’s transfer deadline eve Q&A session earlier today.

The Daily Mail reported yesterday while the Frenchman is keen on joining Spurs, however, he was said to fear that Chelsea may block the move as they are not keen to strengthen a direct rival.

The Daily Star reported that the Blues are prepared to do business with Spurs but it is alleged Mourinho will have to pay more than the £4.5 million than Inter Milan previously offered.

The report also reveals that Frank Lampard’s side are looking to complete a deal for Dries Mertens before the close of the transfer window. It is suggested that they are reluctant to let Giroud leave without having the deal for the Napoli player confirmed.

Spurs Web Opinion

Giroud will be an extremely good fit given the experience he comes with. He will also be able to offer us a different option from the bench which we have lacked since we let Llorente leave in the summer. However, I just can’t see Chelsea selling him to us given that we are both in direct competition for the fourth spot.
