Report: Chelsea ready to bid for alleged Spurs target – Emerson Royal mentioned

According to a new report from TuttoMercatoWeb, Chelsea are set to submit a bid for Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries and hope to beat Tottenham Hotspur to his signature.

The 26-year-old joined the Italian giants last summer from PSV Eindhoven. He has seven goals and ten assists in 65 appearances for the Serie A side in that time (Transfermarkt).

Dumfries is currently on international duty with the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup, where he aims to add to his 39 caps and five goals during the tournament (Transfermarkt).

Once the World Cup is over, there could be a change of scenery for the versatile Dumfries, with a host of clubs tracking his situation in Italy.

Rudy Galetti has suggested Dumfries is Antonio Conte’s number one target to solve the right wing-back problem at Spurs in the January transfer window. The player is also attracting interest from Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea, though (CMW).

Spurs could have one advantage in the race for Dumfries’ signature, with Inter Milan said to be interested in signing Emerson Royal from the North London club (CalcioMercato).

According to the latest from TuttoMercatoWeb, “Chelsea are back strong” in their desire to bring Dumfries to Stamford Bridge. By the sounds of it, a fee of “no less than 40 million euros” is required to secure the move.

The report also reinforces the idea that Emerson Royal is “one of the most popular profiles” for Inter Milan when it comes to potential replacements for Dumfries.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham Hotspur can offload Emerson Royal and bring in Denzel Dumfries in the same move, that would be an incredibly shrewd bit of business for the club. Royal clearly isn’t working out at Spurs, while Dumfries looks to be the perfect solution for Conte’s right wing-back issue. If Chelsea are interested, we should use every tool at our disposal to get an advantage over them.
