Report: Chelsea readying offer for centre-back Spurs were interested in

Football Insider have claimed that Chelsea are now preparing a bid for Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards, who is also said to be wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.

Edwards is now into his third season in Peterborough’s first-team, with the teenager having made six appearances in League One so far this campaign (Transfermarkt).

It was Football Insider who claimed back in June that the Posh were bracing themselves for a bid from Spurs for the youngster.

However, it is unclear whether an offer from the North London club ever materialised and, if the same publication’s latest update is to be believed, Chelsea have now moved into pole position to sign the centre-back.

The report claims that Tottenham registered an interest in Edwards after receiving rave reviews from their talent-spotters while Crystal Palace have already had a £4m offer for the defender rejected this summer.

Peterborough are said to be holding out for a higher offer in the final days of the summer window.

Football Insider state that Chelsea scouts watched Edwards in action against Derby County on Saturday and are now expected to make a bid for the 19-year-old.

Apart from the big-money additions that they have made to their first team over the summer, Chelsea have also secured one of the most promising young players in England in the form of midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.

Tottenham should be looking to put up a fight rather than allowing them to snap up Edwards. Besides, with Tanganga likely to leave the club on loan, the Peterborough starlet would tick a lot of boxes, given the fact that he is homegrown.
