Report: Chelsea reignite interest in playmaker Spurs targeted in the summer

According to Spanish outlet El Desmarque, Chelsea are set to reignite their interest in former Tottenham target Philippe Coutinho this year.

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea are ready to challenge Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur for the Brazillian after a transfer ban prevented them from doing so in the summer.

Spurs were reportedly interested in bringing Coutinho back to the Premier League in the summer before he joined Bayern Munich on loan (The Times).

The playmaker has been impressive in his first six months, contributing to seven goals and seven assists (Transfermarkt), including a goal against Spurs in the Champions League.

As stated by El Desmargue, Barcelona are keen to sell Phillipe Coutinho as they plan to fund a move for former player Neymar.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Christian Eriksen does leave the club in the summer then Philippe Coutinho is the perfect man to replace him. The Brazilian was fantastic in the Premier League whilst at Liverpool and is one of the best in the world. Not only can he play behind the striker, but as a winger and central midfielder adding more depth and quality.
