Report: Chelsea set to beat Spurs to signing of highly-rated young full-back

90min have claimed that Chelsea are expected to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Brighton starlet Zak Sturge.

Sturge has impressed for Brighton’s Under-18s over the past couple of years and has even featured for the Seagulls’ Under-23s.

The 19-year-old, who has been capped by England at Under-18 level, is thought to be attracting the interest of a whole host of Premier League clubs after refusing to sign a new contract at the Amex Stadium.

90 min claim that Spurs, Chelsea, Brenfrod and Leeds have all expressed an interest in signing the left-back this summer.

However, it is asserted that the Blues are in pole position to win the race for Sturge ahead of their London rivals Tottenham.

The report asserts that Thomas Tuchel’s side are hopeful of coming to an agreement with the Seagulls over the teenager’s transfer, and are now set to finalise a deal to bring the youngster to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have been extremely effective at snapping up the best young talents in the country over the best part of the last decade. Hopefully, Spurs will now be able to go toe-to-toe with them in that regard, given the changes that Paratici is making to the academy set-up and recruitment.
