Report: Chelsea set to beat Tottenham, Barcelona, and PSG to 23-year-old

It has now been reported that Chelsea are set to beat Tottenham, PSG, and Barcelona to the signing of Andre Onana from Ajax (Voetbal Nieuws and the Express).

This comes after Goal reported that the Blues are seen as the most likely destination as the 23-year-old prefers the switch to West London above the other three interested parties.

Onana is said to be aware that goalkeeping positions at top European clubs do not come around too often and has been prepared to bide his time at Ajax.

The Ajax keeper has made 171 appearances for his current club, conceding just 151 goals, with almost half of his matches between the sticks ending in clean sheets (Express).

These links to Chelsea come under two years after the Blues spent £71m on Kepa Arrizabalaga from Atletic Bilbao, but the Spanish keeper has been in poor form of late.

Tottenham currently have Hugo Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga to choose from in North London.

Spurs Web Opinion:

From what I have seen of Onana, he has far too many mistakes in him during big matches and is not worth whatever huge fee Ajax will surely demand. Spurs should be spending their money in other areas.
