Report: Chelsea shock with Conor Gallagher U-turn amid Tottenham interest

The Daily Mail have claimed that in a shocking turn of events, Chelsea are now prepared to listen to offers for rumoured Tottenham target Conor Gallagher in January.

Gallagher has emerged as an important player for Mauricio Pochettino this season, with the midfielder even wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwill.

While reports over the last two months have said that Spurs continue to hold a keen interest in the 23-year-old (Rudy Galatti – Tribal Football), various sources over recent weeks have indicated that the Blues are set to tie the player down to a new contract (90 min).

Sudden Chelsea U-turn on Conor Gallagher’s future

However, The Mail now state that there are no signs of any progress on talks over a new deal for Gallagher, with Chelsea now ready to listen to offers for their academy graduate.

It is explained that figures at the West London club believe it would make financial sense to cash in on the England international next month, due to the club’s struggles in complying with the FFP rules.

With Pochettino said to be desperate to add a number nine to his squad, it is said that Chelsea could sacrifice Gallagher to raise funds for such a move.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Gallagher does not sign a new contract before January (which he now appears unlikely to do), I have no doubt that Spurs would test the waters with an offer for the midfielder.

While Pochettino seems to value the 23-year-old, the Argentine does not have the authority to make big transfer demands, given that his position at Stamford Bridge appears to be quite precarious.
