Report: Christian Eriksen edges closer to a surprise summer move

Tottenham Hotspur may be on the lookout for a new playmaker this summer, as Christian Eriksen made his thoughts abundantly clear in an interview earlier this month.

Eriksen told the Danish media that he was looking for a step up and a new challenge away from Tottenham for the 2019/20 season (Ekstra Bladet).

It was thought that a move to Real Madrid was most likely, but reports have since claimed that Zinedine Zidane does not want the Spurs star (Marca).

Eriksen added in the interview with Danish press that he would be willing to sign a new contract at Spurs if no big offers came in for him.

However, in the latest twist in this saga, reports have now emerged stating that Eriksen is edging closer to a surprise move to fellow Premier League club Manchester United.

Eriksen has just a year left on his contract in North London, so Spurs will likely have to either sell up for a profit, agree a new contract, or risk losing him on a free in 2020 (O Jogo – as reported by the Express).

Should Tottenham sell to United if Eriksen wants to leave and the offer is good?

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Hardly a step up from Spurs, Man U’s squad, club and management is in disarray and likely will be for years. Eriksen could end up in Mata territory, where he spends most of his best years under coaches who don’t necessarily want him and don’t know where to play him. He doesn’t tackle, his set pieces aren’t great and the defensive side of his game is poor.
Would be horrible watching Eriksen go to a rival with a year left on his contract. I would say no, just on the statement it sends. Plus, we are likely to drop a bit without Eriksen so doesn’t make sense to strengthen a top 4 rival at the same time.

  2. They way he was playing last season it can be argued he had already left, followed by some appalling and disrespectful comments about moving on. The real question is; can he be integrated back into the side if he finally signs a new contract? Not really; many fans will turn on him now and openly boo the man who thought the grass was greener but then the neighbour says he doesn’t want him anyway, hilarious. Real Madrid have rejected him but he has made his bed and should be shipped out to Bayern or Italy.

  3. The Express make up every story which is why they do not appear in any other paper. They do this because no one in their right mind would every read their articles

  4. After saying he wants a step up he takes a step down to play in the Europa? If he goes Utd ,we’ll know his motivation is money and Spurs are better off without greedy players

  5. Urrrrrrrrr is MU playing in Champions League or the other one Chump-ions League…Dont think Erikson wants to play in the latter and cannot see MU winning the EPL next year…. He said he was looking for a step up and a new challenge can’t see that happening at MU next season…..Junk News
