Report: Christian Eriksen emerges as a Plan B for yet another club

Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen has been linked heavily with a move to Real Madrid for the vast majority of the summer.

The Dane is reportedly one of Zinedine Zidane’s top targets as the Frenchman rebuilds his squad after a poor season (Marca).

However, a move has failed to materialise so far with some reports suggesting that Madrid cannot afford Spurs’ asking price for the Dane as they have already broken the bank to bring in several star players this summer (The Sun).

Now it looks like Los Blancos might have some competition for the Tottenham midfielder’s signature in the form of their local rivals Atletico Madrid.

Marca claim that Eriksen has been identified as a Plan B by Atletico as an alternative should they fail to land James Rodriguez, who is reportedly also being pursued by Napoli.

Atletico Madrid have lost some key players this summer in Antoine Griezmann, Lucas Hernández, and Rodri but have reinvested the money into the squad have bought in several new faces including Joao Felix, Marcos Llorente, Mario Hermoso, Felipe and Kieran Tripper.

It is claimed that Atletico are keen to strengthen further and might make an approach for the former Ajax man in the next few days.

Atletico’s interest could be good news for Spurs as it could potentially help bump up Eriksen’s asking price. However, the 27-year-old would likely prefer a move to Real over Atletico as the latter wouldn’t represent a massive step up from Tottenham.
