Report: Christian Eriksen may sign new contract with this clause inserted

While all eyes are on Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League final quest and the potential incomings in the transfer window, Spurs must also concentrate on retaining current stars.

Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen both enter the final year of their respective contracts at the end of the season and will surely invite bids in the summer.

Spurs may not have purchased a single new player in over 15 months, but they have largely been able to keep their first team stars, apart from a January sale of Mousa Dembele.

Spurs will be desperate to keep both Toby and Eriksen beyond this season, especially with such positive signs for the squad after reaching the final two in Europe’s biggest competition.

The BBC have now reported that there is a very good chance that Eriksen will be sold in the summer, however, he may sign a new deal if a clause is inserted.

The report claims the clause in question would allow the player to join Real Madrid or Barcelona if a bid comes in.

Spurs Web Opinion:

My opinion on Eriksen has not and will not change. He is a fantastic player and Tottenham should do everything to keep him. However, if the Great Dane is set on leaving for pastures new, then Tottenham should sell up now and get as much money as possible. If a new contract with a buyout clause is the best way to get the biggest fee, then I’m all for it.
