Report: ‘Civil war’ at Spurs as senior figure ‘washed his hands’ of Nuno appointment

Football Insider have claimed there is a civil war going on behind the scenes at Tottenham Hotspur after the club’s technical performance director, Steve Hitchen, washed his hands of Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment.

Tottenham’s poor run of form over recent weeks has seen the pressure being dialled up on Nuno early into his reign at Spurs.

One source has indicated that some players at the club are not convinced by the Portuguese coach’s methods while other reports have already suggested he is fighting to hold on to his job.

The 5-1 win over NS Mura in the Europa Conference League and the 2-1 win over Aston Villa has momentarily taken some pressure off the Spurs boss.

However, Football Insider have now claimed that there are plenty of disagreements at the club regarding Nuno’s appointment.

The report reveals that the former Wolves boss was not considered for the role by the North London club until Fabio Paratici was appointed as the managing director of football and took over the managerial search process from Hitchen.

It is asserted that Hitchen’s private stance on the matter is that Nuno’s appointment has “nothing to do with him”.

It was fairly evident based on how our managerial search transpired in the summer that Nuno (like Gattuso and Fonseca) was Paratici’s choice rather than Hitchen’s or Levy’s.

Time will tell if Nuno is the right man to take the club forward but he certainly deserves time to show what he can do.
