Report claims agent has offered Spurs the chance so sign player on a free deal

According to a report from Italian outlet Il Messaggero (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Diego Costa, who is now a free agent.

Costa’s contract at Atletico Madrid was initially due to run until the end of the season but the La Liga club agreed to terminate his deal back in December.

Multiple reports from Spain during last month’s transfer window (La Razon and Mundo Deportivo) claimed that Spurs were at the front of the queue for the 32-year-old’s signature.

However, it was also suggested that the former Chelsea man was demanding a salary of more than £250,000-a-week to sign on the dotted line.

Il Messaggero now claims that Costa’s agent, Jorge Mendes is working hard to find a new club for the striker.

Among the clubs that Mendes is said to have offered Costa to is Tottenham, as well as their London rivals West Ham.

However, the report does not clarify whether  Spurs have expressed interest in signing the striker.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Harry Kane’s injury had turned out to be serious, I could see why we would have wanted to bring in someone like Costa as a precaution. However, now that the England captain is expected to be back soon, I do not see any reason why we would go for the 32-year-old.
