Report claims Bale could prove key to Spurs landing rumoured target

The Daily Star have claimed that Gareth Bale could prove to be a ‘key cog’ in Tottenham Hotspur’s attempts to sign Joe Rodon before the October 16 domestic transfer deadline.

Rodon has been part of Wales’ senior set up for two years and won his most recent cap for Ryan Giggs’ side against Ireland earlier today, when he lined up in a backline which also featured Ben Davies.

Reports indicate that several other Premier League clubs are also eying a move for the Swansea City defender before next Friday’s deadline, with Spurs potentially set to have a  battle on their hands for the defender’s signature (The Times).

The Daily Star now reveal the likes of West Ham and Manchester United are also keen on Rondon, Bale might prove Tottenham’s trump card in attracting the defender to North London.

The 22-year-old has raved about the former Real Madrid superstar previously and it is now asserted that the influence of Bale and Davies makes Spurs the favourites for the centre-back’s signature.

I would be extremely surprised if Davies had not spoken to Rodon already about coming to Spurs while meeting up with the defender on international duty this week. However, I expect the deal to drag on until October 16 as we are in no rush to get it completed quickly and the two clubs still seem to be some away apart in their valuations of Rodon.
