Report claims contract talks with Spurs star are ‘very advanced’

Eurosport has claimed that talks over a new deal for Son Heung-min at Tottenham Hotspur are very advanced and that those the club are confident that the South Korean will stay.

Son is on course to have the best season of his career statistically, with the forward now sitting joint-second in the race for the Premier League golden boot.

The 28-year-old still has two and a half years left to run on his current deal at Tottenham but multiple reports (Telegraph and Evening Standard) over the last few months have stated that Spurs are holding talks with the forward over a new deal.

Jose Mourinho suggested earlier this week that he is confident that Son’s representatives and the club will come to an agreement but admitting that the timing might not be ideal to finalise a deal due to the economic impact of the pandemic.

Europort have now suggested that the two parties are at a very advanced stage in their talks but Tottenham will hold off the announcement until the end of the season.

The report states that losing Son to another club is simply not an option for Spurs given his importance to the side.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Tottenham would have already announced new contracts for both Kane and Son if not for the financial uncertainty due to COVID-19. Hopefully, this does not come back to bite us as I fear that one of the two might change their minds if we do not show signs of progress this season.
