Report claims experienced Spurs star is next in line for new contract talks

According to a report from ESPN, Tottenham could be set to hand Hugo Lloris a new contract in the coming months.

Lloris did not have the best of starts to the season as his unforced errors cost the side on a few occasions at the beginning of the campaign.

The 33-year-old seemed to be on the decline with some Spurs fans even suggesting at one point that Paulo Gazzaniga be made the number one.

However, Lloris has been in terrific form since returning from the elbow injury that kept him out for several months.

The Tottenham skipper has continued his fine form since the restart and has pulled off several important saves in the team’s recent wins.

The Lilywhites have continued to be linked with a move for various goalkeepers, with reports suggesting that the Jose Mourinho wants to bring in a shot-stopper to compete with Lloris for the number one spot (Daily Mail).

However, ESPN claims that Tottenham could be about to reward the former Lyon man with a new contract for his improved run of form.

After having tied down Eric Dier to a new deal, it is claimed that the club could be set to begin negotiations with Lloris in the coming months.

It is revealed that Spurs wish to extend the stay of the experienced shot-stopper, whose current deal runs out in the summer of 2022.

Spurs Web Opinion

Lloris has been one of our best players since the restart and his form has very much been under-appreciated by the fan base in comparison to the praise that some of the others have been getting. Hugo clearly seems determined to prove that he is far from finished and has a few good years of football left in him. When he is in the form that he currently is in, there are very few goalkeepers in the world who better than him.
