Report claims it is ‘only a matter of time’ before Mourinho hands teenager his debut

A report from The Athletic has claimed that the staff at Tottenham Hotspur expect big things from academy defender Dennis Cirkin in the future.

Cirkin featured in Tottenham’s pre-season and has already been praised publicly by Jose Mourinho but the left-back is yet to make his senior first-team bow.

The Athletic included the 18-year-old in their list of 20 youngsters to watch out for in 2021.

It is claimed that Cirkin would have already made his debut for the first-team if not for a couple of injuries this season and that it is only a matter of time before he gets his opportunity.

The report suggests that the youngster has been training with the first-team regularly since Mourinho arrived at the club and the Spurs boss, as well as the others at Hotspur Way, find him very coachable.

Cirkin, who has been at Tottenham since the age of nine, is said to have looked up to Danny Rose, and many at Spurs believe that the youngster is a hugely exciting prospect for both club and country.

We have a fantastic crop of youngsters coming through at the moment, with the likes of Cirkin, Harvey White, Dane Scarlett, Alfie Devine and Malachi Fagan-Walcott, all capable of breaking into the first-team in the coming years. It is arguably the best crop of youngsters the club have had since the one that had the likes of Kane, Townsend, Carroll and Caulker.
