Report claims Man City could move for Spurs academy graduate to save money

The Express claim that Manchester City could sign Spurs academy graduate, Japhet Tanganga, as well as Jan Vertonghen, on free transfers to save money this summer.

Vertonghen will be a free agent in the summer and there is no indication that the defender is close to signing a new deal with Spurs.

The Belgian international has been linked with a move to a move to Inter Milan (Standard) as well as a return to Ajax (De Telegraaf) in the summer.

Tanganga, meanwhile, has had an impressive couple of months since breaking into the Spurs side and Football Insider reports that the club are in discussions with him over a new contract.

The Express made a list of four players that Man City could move for on free transfers to save money this summer, in case their Champions League ban is upheld.

It is suggested that signing a centre back in the summer is Pep Guardiola’s priority and Tanganga and Vertonghen could both be potential options because of their contract status.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can see why Manchester City would be forced to sign free agents if they had trouble fulfilling their FFP requirements. However, I don’t believe we are likely to see them move for Vertognhen. I expect the Belgian to end up back at Ajax in the summer if Spurs don’t offer him a contract extension.

I don’t think there is any chance of Tanganga leaving Spurs just months after being handed his opportunity by Jose Mourinho. I believe the youngster will stay loyal and commit his future to the club.
