Report claims manager Spurs approached now focused on photography instead

The Athletic have revealed that former Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde, who Tottenham allegedly held talks with over the summer, is now focused on photography.

Spurs were linked with a whole host of names before they eventually confirmed Nuno Espirito Santo as Jose Mourinho’s successor over the summer.

Valverde was one of the coaches thought to have been approached by the North Londoners, with Fabrizio Romano revealing at the time that Spurs had held talks with the Spaniard over taking over.

The 57-year-old has been out of work since parting ways with Barcelona in 2020 and some Spurs fans on social media were enthusiastic about the prospect of appointing him as Mourinho’s replacement.

However, Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici decided to eventually give the job to Nuno and the jury is still out on the Portuguese coach, who has had a tough start to life at Spurs.

The Athletic have now revealed that Valverde has used his first prolonged break from football management to concentrate on his other interests including photography.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not sure that many of the candidates that Spurs spoke to over the summer (including the likes of Valverde, Fonseca or Erik Ten Hag) would have been the right fit for us. Graham Potter was the one I wanted but it was not clear if the 46-year-old was keen to join Tottenham.
