Report claims Mourinho’s future could be at risk due to Spurs pair

According to a report in The Express, the futures of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min could be called into question if Tottenham fail to qualify for the Champions League and they keep faith with Jose Mourinho.

There has been a lot of talk regarding a new contract for Son over recent months, with reports claiming that Spurs are close to reaching an agreement on a new deal with the South Korean.

However, the forward has chosen to remain tight-lipped on the new deal, while Jose Mourinho has insisted that the timing is not right to announce new contracts due to the financial impact of the pandemic.

Previous reports indicated that Kane is also a target for Manchester City, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

The Express has claimed that the England captain is on City’s and PSG’s radar and Tottenham may be powerless to prevent him from leaving should they miss out on Champions League football.

It is also suggested a number of European giants could come after Son if they believe that he is open to a new challenge.

Spurs Web Opinion

Unless we manage to turn around our results in the Premier League immediately, our only realistic route to Champions League qualification seems to be through the Europa League. That competition will be extremely difficult to win given the sides that are in it as well as the fact that it takes only one bad day to get knocked out.

The club certainly cannot afford to miss out on the Champions League for a second consecutive season, not only so that they can hold on to Kane and Son but also because finances will take a major hit at what is already a testing time. It is increasingly starting to look like Jose has to win the Europa League to save his job.
