Reports in Spain suggest Giovani Lo Celso would jump at the chance to sign for Barcelona if the Catalan club were to make a move for the Tottenham Hotspur man.
Lo Celso has spent the last two seasons in Spain, impressing during a loan spell with Villarreal. So much so, in fact, that both Barcelona and Real Betis were reportedly keen to sign Lo Celso this summer (Sport).
Ange Postecoglou decided to keep hold of the midfielder as part of his squad, but Lo Celso hasn’t been given much of a chance yet.
He has just four appearances under his belt so far, totalling no more than 83 minutes of game time for Spurs (Transfermarkt).
Lo Celso could be tempted by Barca
Recent reports have suggested Barcelona are keen on signing Lo Celso as a replacement for the injured Gavi, whether that be a permanent move or a loan switch (Mundo Deportivo).
According to Sport, Lo Celso is the top target for the La Liga side heading into the January transfer window. And, if Barcelona do make an attempt to sign the Spurs man, it’s thought he would “welcome” the switch as he is “in the mood for a change.”
In addition, Mundo Deportivo‘s latest on the matter (via Sport Witness) claims Lo Celso would be so keen he would join Barcelona with his “eyes closed.”
That report also suggests that Lo Celso’s Italian passport would come in handy, as he wouldn’t need to be registered as a non-EU player.
Spurs Web Opinion
This speculation really is intensifying, and I’ve no doubt that Lo Celso would be interested in a move to Barcelona. But, Spurs will not be in a rush to lose any squad players without having adequate cover, so unless we sign a midfielder Lo Celso is unlikely to leave.
