Report claims Southampton are ready to move for Hojbjerg replacement

The Express claim that Southampton are ready to make a move for Adam Lallana this summer as they consider the Liverpool player as the replacement for rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Hojbjerg has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham for the past couples of months (Football Insider) but the speculation over the midfielder’s future has gone into overdrive over recent days.

It has been claimed that Everton have stepped up their interest in the 24-year-old and have made a £25million offer to Southampton (talkSPORT).

However, the Denmark International is still thought to prefer a move to Tottenham and the Lilywhites are reportedly confident of getting a deal for him over the line (Guardian).

It now appears as if Hojbjerg could be a step closer to leaving St Mary’s this summer with The Express claiming that Ralph Hasenhuttl wants to replace him with Lallana.

Lallana, who came through the Saints academy and went on to make over 250 appearances for the club before joining the Reds in 2014, will become a free agent when his contract runs out at the end of the month (transfermarkt).

It is claimed that Southampton are looking to beat Brighton, Leicester and Burnley to the England international’s signature, while also attempting to make Kyle Walker-Peters’ loan move from Spurs permanent in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Lallana certainly will not be a direct replacement for Hojbjerg as the 32-year-old has completely different qualities to the Dane. Perhaps Southampton want to use the Hojbjerg transfer fee to give a signing-on fee and big contract to Lallana, but he will not be a like-for-like replacement.
