Report claims Spanish club want to sign Spurs star is wide of the mark

Christian Eriksen’s future in North London continues to be hotly debated in both the British and overseas press.

Yesterday evening, Italian football journalist Alfredo Pedulla has claimed that the Tottenham Hotspur playmaker was on the radar of La Liga side Atletico Madrid.

Eriksen revealed to Danish media outlet Ekstra Bladet in early June that he wishes to leave Tottenham this summer in order to seek a new challenge whilst inviting the opportunity for Real Madrid to make contact over a potential deal.

However, Mundo Deportivo have today claimed that Eriksen is not considered to be an option for Atletico who instead have other transfer priorities.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid however there has yet to have been an approach from Zinedine Zidane’s side to bring him to the Bernabeu (Express).

Eriksen has just twelve months left to run on his existing contract at Tottenham which could potentially see him agree a pre-contract deal with a European club from January.

Opinion

Eriksen looks as if he will have to play a waiting game to see if Madrid are serious about signing him while Levy will certainly not want to risk losing him for free next summer. A crucial few weeks lie ahead in the Eriksen saga.
