Report: Tottenham are keen on signing German U-19 international

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be one of several clubs interested in singing Greuther Furth teenager Jamie Leweling, according to a report in Sport1.

The 19-year-old has now broken into the senior side at Greuther Furth, a team that plays in the second division in Germany.

The teenager has clocked up fifteen appearances in all competitions, registering three goals and one assist (transfermarkt.com), and his form this season is said to be turning the heads of several clubs across Europe.

Apart from the North Londoners, the likes of Watford, AC Milan, and Udinese are also apparently tracking the wide man, but it is Schalke who are said to be the front-runners for his signature.

Leweling’s current contract at Furth only runs until the summer of 2022 and so the teenager could come relatively cheap.

However, with Furth currently sitting fifth in Bundesliga 2 and still in the race for promotion, the situation may well change if they reach the top tier of German football.

Spurs Web Opinion

While all the focus has been on free agents this summer owing to clubs’ financial constraints, I also expect a lot of young talents to move clubs this summer. A lot of clubs around Europe are going to be keen on raising some money and so we could snap up some of the best young prospects in Europe if we approach the market in the right way.
