Report claims Spurs have already ‘begun to move’ for Serie A midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur have started to make serious progress in their pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with a view to sealing a summer move for the 24-year-old.

It is no secret that Ange Postecoglou is keen to upgrade his midfield options in the next transfer window, with the Spurs boss looking for a new number 8 player to add to his ranks (Independent).

Among the targets on Tottenham’s radar is Ederson, who is currently excelling in Serie A with Atalanta. It is thought Spurs are one of a number of clubs who have sent scouts to watch the Brazilian (GiveMeSport).

Signing Ederson will not be simple, though. According to Corriere Bergamo, Atalanta have already rebuffed Spurs’ advances previously, and Corriere Della Sera (via Sport Witness) suggest Juventus are also in the hunt.

It is believed a fee of around £40m would be required to force Atalanta to part ways with their midfielder (Gazzetta Dello Sport).

Spurs making moves for Ederson

Now, Tutto Atalanta have a fresh update on the situation, with claims there is a “storm of interest” around Ederson from various teams in the Premier League, with Spurs cited as a potential suitor.

It is said there are “watchful eyes” coming from Tottenham, Newcastle, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal, and moves are beginning to be made. Apparently, “the first, cautious pawns” have been sent forward in the approach for the player.

However, with Atalanta already reluctant to sell, and the prospect of Champions League football potentially heading their way next season (Atalanta are currently fourth in Serie A), there is a chance the club would have “even less reason to consider” selling.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can see this one becoming a little too expensive for our tastes to be honest, but I’d like to see us at least attempt to sign Ederson. He’s already a good player, and I think he would be able to succeed in the Premier League. I’d hate to witness him do that with one of our rivals.
