Report claims Spurs have been put off by Inter Milan’s asking price for Bastoni

According to CalcioMercato, Inter Milan’s asking price for Alessandro Bastoni has forced Tottenham Hotspur to ‘retreat’.

Alasdair Gold revealed on his YouTube channel this week (starting at 10:06) that while Fabio Paratici has a long list of left-sided centre-backs on his list, Bastoni is the player that he and Antonio Conte would prefer to sign.

However, the journalist revealed it would be ‘difficult’ for Spurs to snap up the Italian international as Inter are likely to demand a big fee for the player.

CalcioMercato have now claimed that Conte has personally identified Bastoni as the man to strengthen Tottenham’s backline and has told Paratici to sign the 23-year-old.

However, it is explained that when the Spurs managing director of football contacted Inter about the centre-back, the Serie A club made it clear they will only consider selling him for an offer of around €60m-€70m (£50.9m-£59.4m).

The report adds that Tottenham have put off by the Nerazzurri’s asking price for Bastoni.

Inter will have to sell one or two of their assets this summer in order to balance their books. Bastoni is certainly one of their most sellable assets and only has two years left on his contract.

So, even though the Serie A club might be playing hardball, one would expect them to lower their demands over the coming weeks.

However, with Conte potentially wanting to bring players in before pre-season, one wonders how long Spurs will wait before turning their attentions to the likes of Pau Torres or Josko Gvardiol.
