Journalist claims Spurs have compromised on detail in Lo Celso negotiations

According to TYC Sports journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Tottenham Hotspur are no longer pushing for an obligation to buy to be included in their negotiations with Villarreal over a loan deal for Giovani Lo Celso.

Fabrizio Romano reported at the start of this week that Villarreal are confident of winning the race for Lo Celso this summer on the back of the Argentine’s successful spell at the club during the second half of last season

Alfredo Pedulla revealed on Tuesday that the La Liga club are in a hurry to close a deal for the midfielder as Fiorentina have not given up on their pursuit of the Tottenham man. The journalist claimed the 26-year-old is getting ‘closer’ to returning to El Madrigal.

This has now been backed up by Merlo, who has taken to social media to claim that Lo Celso is now getting close to re-signing with Unai Emery’s men.

However, the journalist claimed that Spurs have ‘put aside their idea’ of wanting an obligation to buy attached to the midfielder’s loan move to Villarreal.

He added that the Spanish club could insert an option to make the deal permanent next summer.

This Lo Celso saga demonstrates just how perilous a state the Italian and Spanish clubs is at the moment economically. Despite the Argentine being sought after by several clubs, Tottenham are seemingly struggling to get market value for the midfielder this summer.
