Report claims Spurs hold an advantage in midfielder which club are keen to sell

The speculation linking Tottenham with a move for Willian Carvalho has picked up pace in the last few weeks.

Transfer20 first reported last week that Jose Mourinho was keen on bringing the midfielder to North London as a potential replacement for Tanguy Ndombele. The report claimed that the Real Betis midfielder is open to the idea of a Premier League switch this summer.

AS revealed that the Betis are determined to sell the 28-year-old this summer as they need to raise funds to pursue their transfer targets.

The La Liga side were also said to be keen on removing the Portuguese international from their wage bill.

Portuguese publication Record (as relayed by Sport Witness) have now backed AS’s claim about Betis being keen on selling the former Sporting player.

While they claim that Leicester City and Wolves are also interested in the midfielder, they suggest that the Lilywhites have an advantage in the race for Carvalho due to Jose Mourinho’s persuasiveness.

It is also said that the ‘interesting project’ at North London is appealing to the Portuguese midfielder.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Real Betis’ seeming desperation to sell Carvalho, I would take rumours of our interest with a pinch of salt. It could be that our name is being thrown in the mix to get his price up. The only way a move for Carvalho would make sense is if we are selling Ndombele, which reports indicate is not going to happen.
