Report claims Spurs showed interest in Serie A midfielder last month

Tottenham Hotspur were among a handful of clubs to show an interest last month in Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino, according to reports in Italy.

There were claims last month which suggested Tottenham were close to reaching an agreement with Inter for Vecino (Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla).

Corriere Dello Sport claimed that the midfielder was keen on leaving leave the Italian club and liked the idea of moving to Spurs, but the only piece of business to materialise between the two clubs last month was Chrisitan Eriksen swapping North London for the San Siro.

A report by Inter Live (as relayed by Sport Witness) now claims that Spurs along with Everton and West Ham United, were all interested in signing the Uruguay international last month with Everton said to have come the closest to landing him on a loan deal with a right to buy at €12 million.

The report adds that 28-year-old might leave the club at the end of the season but the three Premier League clubs mentioned could face competition from AC Milan, Napoli and Lazio for Vecino’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

We are fairly well stocked in central midfield with the likes of Winks, Dier, Lo Celso, Sissoko, Ndombele and Gedson all seemingly competing for 2 or 3 spots in the team. So, I cannot see us signing another central midfielder unless we let at least one of the aforementioned players leave in the summer.
