Report claims Spurs would have to pay full release clause to sign midfielder

Record have reported (via Sport Witness) that Tottenham would have to pay Palhinha’s full release clause if they want to sign him this summer, according to a Sporting CP source.

The Portuguese midfielder is said to have a release clause of around £52m, which would be a huge fee for the North London club to pay this year.

It is said that Tottenham, Everton, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla are interested in the midfield man this summer, although he is not a priority signing for the Toffees.

The 25-year-old played 38 games for Sporting last season and impressed during his 45 minutes on the pitch for Portugal against France at Euro 2020 last week.

It was reported on Friday that Tottenham had taken a ‘step forward’ towards signing Palhinha, having contacted Sporting over a possible deal (Record via Sport Witness).

Spurs Web Opinion:

Let’s start by saying that Tottenham are not paying £52m for any player this summer, let alone Palhinha. I expect the Lilywhites to mainly look for £10m to £15m bargains, with one top target costing around £30m.
