Report claims the departure of one Tottenham star is now ‘inevitable’

Croatian media outlets are now claiming it is ‘inevitable’ that Ivan Perisic will return to Hajduk Split, and it’s more a matter of when, than if, the move will happen.

Ivan Perisic signed for Tottenham last summer on a free transfer to connect with his former coach, Antonio Conte.

As was the case with most of the Spurs squad, Perisic was a little underwhelming last season. Many suspected that, when Conte left the club back in March, Perisic’s own departure couldn’t be far away.

No move happened for the Croatian this summer, however, and he was retained as part of Ange Postecoglous squad for the new campaign. Largely used as a substitute, Perisic still managed to contribute two assists in the early stages of the season (Transfermarkt).

Perisic’s involvement for the entire season is at risk now, however, as he has suffered an ACL injury that could keep him out for the entire campaign (Evening Standard).

Perisic very likely to return to Croatia

Such an absence would mean that we have seen the last of Perisic in a Spurs shirt. And now, 24 Sata have been discussing the veteran’s next move.

It is not thought to be “inevitable” that Perisic will rejoin his former club, Hajduk Split. Perisic started his career there and came through the club’s academy, and it seems the only question is when he will return.

While Perisic could move in January, it is expected he will remain at Spurs rather than forgo his £9.3m per year salary. Apparently, he will only earn around 10% of this at Hajduk.

Because of this fact, the report insists Hajduk supporters should “bow to” Perisic for the financial sacrifice he will take on to return to the club.

I’m sure Spurs would love to get Perisic’s wages off their bill in January, but that would not benefit Hajduk or Perisic himself. He will almost definitely stay at Spurs until the end of the season and then leave on a free.
