Report claims this Tottenham man may have played his final game for the club

According to a report from A BOLA, Gedson Fernandes is set to return to Benfica this month after failing to get too many first-team chances at Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Fernandes arrived at Tottenham on an 18-month loan deal in January 2020 but Jose Mourinho hinted back in November that the North Londoners would be willing to cut his loan deal short.

However, the Spurs boss said in his press conference on Tuesday that he still does not know whether the midfielder will return to his parent club this month.

The 22-year-old was handed a rare start in the FA Cup third-round clash against Marine on Sunday and put in a tidy display as Spurs ran out 5-0 winners.

However, it turns out that this appearance could well be the last we see of Fernandes in a Tottenham shirt as A Bola have now asserted that he is set to return to Portugal.

The report claims that Jorge Jesus could incorporate the Portugal Under-21 international into his squad to provide more competition but also suggests that Fernandes could be sent out on another loan if the Primeira Liga giants land William Carvalho this month.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that Fernandes is not likely to get much of a look-in for the rest of the season if he stays at Spurs. So, letting him return to Benfica would be the right thing to do for his development. The youngster has been unlucky as he has not really had a run of games in the side to build some momentum and show what he could do.
