Report claims Tottenham player did not expect to be left out of the team against Chelsea

According to Colombian news outlet Futbol Red (as translated by Sport Witness), Davinson Sanchez expected to be handed a start against Chelsea, with Toby Alderweireld ruled out of the clash with a muscular injury.

Sanchez has not seen a single minute of Premier League action since Tottenham’s late collapse against West Ham back in October.

It is fair to say that Joe Rodon being selected ahead of the Colombian for the London derby did not come as a big surprise, with the Welsh international being named on the bench by Mourinho ahead of Sanchez for the recent matches against Burnley, Brighton, West Brom and Manchester City.

In fact, multiple reports predicted (Daily Mail and Alasdair Gold) ahead of Spurs’ trip to Stamford Bridge that the former Swansea man was likely to be handed his first start.

However, Futbol Red claim that Sanchez did not anticipate that he would be overlooked in favour of the summer singing and turned to his family to help him deal with the disappointment.

The report suggests that Sanchez’s poor performances with Colombia during the last international break was part of the reason Mourinho continues to overlook the former Ajax central defender.
