Report claims transfer ‘will not be possible’ despite Mourinho’s ‘desire’

According to Spanish publication AS (as relayed by Sport Witness), a move to Tottenham Hotspur will not be possible for Gareth Bale this summer.

It has become an annual transfer window tradition for Spurs to be linked with re-signing Bale and it has been no different this summer.

Reports have suggested that Tottenham could look to offer the 31-year-old an exit route from Madrid this summer after Jose Mourinho gave the green light for the deal (El Espanyol).

AS have now claimed that Mourinho is keen to bring the Welshman back to North London and that Spurs’ interest in the Los Blancos star is real.

However, the report rules out any chance of the pacey winger heading back to Spurs this summer due to his bumper salary.

It is revealed that Bale has no intention of taking a cut on the €15m salary net per season he is earning at Madrid and wishes to see out his contract which has two years left to run.

While the La Liga giants are said to be keen on getting rid of Bale, it is said that no club is likely to be in a position to afford his wages this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

There are ways of getting around Bale’s bumper wages if we so desire. One possible option that has been suggested in the past is handing the winger a signing-on fee to compensate for the reduced wages he would get at Spurs. However, I am not sure that re-signing Bale will make too much sense for us given that the Welshman does not appear hungry to come back and prove himself in the Premier League.
