Report claims West Ham player is keen to join Tottenham this summer

Jose Mourinho has prioritised the rebuilding of the Spurs backline this summer and has identified three Premier League players for his summer transfer shortlist, according to a report in Foot Mercato.

It is claimed that West Ham’s Issa Diop is the primary transfer target to replace Jan Vertonghen, who is expected to leave when his contract runs out this summer. The 23-year-old is said to be keen to make the move across London.

Norwich right-back Max Aarons is also said to be on Tottenham’s radar this summer, with the club also keeping tabs on looking at two other options in Thomas Meunier and Emerson Junior.

The report also surprisingly suggests that Leicester City star Ben Chilwell could also be Tottenham bound this summer.

It is claimed that signing the England international is the club’s primary target to improve the left side of their defence.

Spurs Web Opinion

This report seems to contradict the ones over recent weeks that have suggested that we are likely to go for loan signings and bargain transfers this summer due to our financial difficulties. While Diop, Aarons and Chilwell might have been our targets before the pandemic struck, I think we would have likely reassessed the situation by now due to the circumstances.
