Report reveals Real Madrid President’s stance on Spurs-linked defender

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is worried that reports of David Alaba’s impending arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu is misleading rumoured Tottenham target, Sergio Ramos, into thinking that he is no longer wanted at the club.

Ramos is said to be one of the central defenders on Tottenham’s radar this month as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his backline (Evening Standard).

AS previously reported that there were some complications in negotiations over a new deal for the centre-back at Real Madrid.

It was suggested that the 34-year-old was trying to get the best terms possible since this was likely to be his last big contract while Madrid were looking to make significant cuts in player salaries due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Marca even claimed that the Real Madrid captain had rejected a one-year contract extension offered by the club on the same salary that he is currently earning.

Defensa Central now suggest that while Madrid are interested in signing Alaba, Perez views that potential move as being completely separate to the contract negotiations with Ramos.

The report reveals that the Bayern Munich man is not a replacement for the Spaniard and that the Real Madrid supremo wants to see the experienced defender stay at the club.

I believe Ramos, even at 34 years of age, would be a brilliant addition to Spurs due to the experience and winning mentality he would bring to the dressing room. However, I fully expect the centre-back to agree on a new deal with Real Madrid.
