Barely has a transfer window gone by in the last few years where Spurs have not been heavily linked with re-signing Gareth Bale.
Last month was no different with reports in the final days of the transfer window stating that the North Londoners were making back in for Real Madrid star (the Times) only the move failed to materialise once more.
After the transfer deadline shut, Spanish publication AS reported that the Welsh winger’s return to Spurs was scuppered by the fact that he was not prepared to take a wage cut.
His agent Jonathan Barnett has since claimed that Tottenham did not make an offer for his client last month (talkSPORT).
The Daily Star now backs Jonathan Barnett’s statement and suggest that although Spurs explored the possibility of signing the 30-year-old, they never actually made a bid for him.
The report suggests that when Bale eventually departs the Bernabeu, he is expected to join a club in either the United States or China.
Spurs Web Opinion
I think it is fair to say Spurs fans can now completely get over any lingering hopes of Bale returning to North London. It is clear at his point that it is not going to happen and I would question if we would even want him given that he doesn’t seem to have the hunger to prove himself again at the top level.
