Report: Club already have concerns about player they signed from Spurs in January

Sport Bild have revealed that there are some concerns at Bayern Munich over whether Eric Dier is the long-term answer at centre-back.

Some eyebrows were raised when Bayern decided to sign Dier from Tottenham during last month’s transfer window as the 30-year-old was struggling to get game time at Spurs even when the club’s first-choice centre-backs, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, were unavailable.

However, things have gone reasonably well for the centre-back from a personal standpoint, with the player having made five appearances since his switch, three of which have been starts (Transfermarkt).

Question mark over Eric Dier’s future

Bild now point out that should Dier continue making more appearances, an automatic clause would be triggered, with the Bundesliga side having to pay €3m (£2.5m) to sign him permanently.

However, the reports says that ‘doubts about him are already increasing’, with some in Munich not totally convinced by the newcomer.

Apart from not having match sharpness due to his lack of game time at Tottenham, it is explained that some at Bayern feel that Dier also lacks the required pace.

With Thomas Tuchel departing the Allianz Arena at the end of the season, it is alleged that there are question marks over the former Spurs star’s long-term future at Bavaria.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tuchel’s departure is terrible news for Dier as the 30-year-old was evidently signed because he fit the German’s system. If Bayern turn to a more progressive coach to replace the 50-year-old, the centre-back will struggle to have a future in Munich.
