According to Sport Witness, Benfica fans and parts of the Portuguese media are critical of the club’s decision to allow Carlos Vinicius to join Tottenham Hotspur on loan as the Portuguese giants are struggling to score goals.
Vinicius, who finished as the joint top scorer in the Portuguese top flight last season, has not had as much game time as he would have liked at Tottenham this season, with most of his minutes coming in the Europa League and domestic cup competitions.
However, the Brazilian still has a very good goals-per-game ratio, having found the back of the net nine times already for Jose Mourinho’s men.
Meanwhile, Benfica’s strikers Haris Seferovic and Darwin Nunez have not had the best of campaigns as their goals have dried up of late.
Sport Witness relays a report from Record which compares Vinicius’ record with the Benfica pair and suggests that Jorge Jesus’ side are paying for their mistake of allowing the 25-year-old to join Spurs on a season-long loan.

The fact that Benfica got knocked out of the Europa League a day after Vinicius scored a brace for Spurs in the competition would not have gone down well with the club’s fans.
However, it seems very likely that Vinicius will probably return to Benfica in the summer as the limited minutes he has got at Spurs does not indicate that Mourinho and his coaching staff are completely convinced by him.
