Report: Club are fearful as manager is on Spurs’ ‘restricted list of candidates’

Record (10/05/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) have revealed that Sporting Lisbon president Frederico Varandas has now ‘frozen’ summer signings as he fears that Ruben Amorim could leave the club amidst Tottenham’s interest.

It was Record who reported at the start of last week that Tottenham plan to open a dialogue with Amorim regarding their managerial vacancy, with the 38-year-old said to be willing to hear the North London club’s offer.

The report added that the manager had a release clause of €20m (£17.5m) in his current contract at the Jose Alvalade Stadium, which can only be triggered by foreign clubs.

The same outlet have now offered an update on Amorim’s future, stating that Sporting had been working on summer transfers for their head coach but have now stopped due to the uncertainty about his future.

It is revealed that Sporting are aware that Amorim is part of a ‘restricted list of candidates’ on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Antonio Conte.

The report adds that the Lilywhites might face competition for the Portuguese coach from Paris Saint-Germain, although the interest of the Parisians is not thought to be strong at the moment.
