Report: Club are holding out for £25m fee to sell Spurs and Crystal Palace target

Crystal Palace are pulling out all the stops to secure the signing of Adam Wharton from Blackburn Rovers ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, and could be set to return with an improved offer for the player before the transfer deadline this week.

Tottenham have been linked with Adam Wharton for quite some time now, with the youngster touted as a possible back-up option in case the Lilywhites’ pursuit of Conor Gallagher falls through (SportsLens).

Spurs may have been tracking Wharton longer, but Crystal Palace recently emerged as suitors for the Championship star, with Ben Jacobs revealing on The Spurs Chat podcast that the Eagles were now at the front of the queue.

Palace have made the first move for the 19-year-old, too, with The Athletic reporting an £18.5m offer had been sent to Blackburn, but the approach was turned down. It is thought Blackburn want a bigger offer, and will insist the midfielder remains at the club on loan until the end of the season.

Will Palace beat Spurs to Adam Wharton deal?

The latest on the situation comes from Football Insider, with sources revealing Palace have not been deterred by the rejection, and are “very keen” to ensure a deal is done before the end of the month.

However, it is thought Blackburn are “reluctant” to sell, and will try to hold out for a fee in the region of £25m. While the Premier League side are looking to submit an “improved bid”, the price tag assigned by Blackburn is thought to be one that Palace “may be unable to meet.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I can’t see either Crystal Palace or Spurs going to £25m for Wharton, so he will likely stay put this month. Perhaps in the summer, Blackburn will lower their demands and Spurs may return with more concrete interest.
