Report: Club are hoping their midfielder rejects any Tottenham advances

According to the print edition of Record (as relayed by Sport Witness), Sporting Lisbon are hopeful that Morten Hjulmand will reject Tottenha’s advances and sign a contract extension at the club.

Hjulmand has been a revelation since his move to Portugal from Lecce last summer, with the 24-year-old having taken the Primeira Liga by storm.

The Dane’s consistent displays in the middle of the park are one of the key reasons why Rubin Amorim’s men sit at the top of the table and are on course to win the title.

Sporting know of Tottenham’s interest

Record now say that Hjulmand is on Spurs’ shortlist ahead of the summer, with the North London club even having sent scouts to Portugal to watch the midfielder in action over recent weeks.

However, Sporting are said to be hopeful that the Denmark international will reject the Premier League side’s advances in the summer and decide to remain at Jose Alvalade Stadium next season.

The report asserts that ‘the entire structure of the club’ want Hjulmand to reject Tottenham and that they are prepared to hand the player a pay rise in order to get him to stay.

Spurs Web Opinion

Sporting are not an easy club to negotiate with and tend to play hardball with their players in an effort to get a huge fee. With there being no suggestion that Hjulmand has a release clause in his contract, I doubt Tottenham would be too keen to hold negotiations with the Portuguese side.
