Report: Club are not concerned about Tottenham’s interest in centre-back

BILD have claimed that Bayer Leverkusen are not worried about losing Piero Hincapie despite Tottenham’s interest in the centre-back.

Over the last week, multiple publications have indicated that Spurs may be about to step up their pursuit of Hincapie on the back of his impressive showing at the World Cup for Ecuador.

Italian journalist Marco Conterio reported on December 29 that Antonio Conte has asked the Spurs hierarchy to snap up the Leverkusen star.

This was followed up by a report in TMW, who revealed on the next day that the Lilywhites are ‘studying the possibility of making an offer’ for the 20-year-old.

Bild have now backed up Tottenham’s interest in Hincapie, stating that Antonio Conte’s men are the latest club to enter the race for the defender following their London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal.

The report explains that Spurs tried to sign the Leverkusen star for around €40m (£35.4m) back in the summer but the Bundesliga club were not willing to let the player leave.

It is alleged that Xabi Alonso’s men are not concerned about losing Hincapie since he is contracted to the club until 2026. Finally, Bild add that it will be ‘really expensive’ for any club to prize the centre-back away from the BayArena.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham almost certainly are not going to make a move for Hincapie or any other left-sided centre-back in January. However, that is a position that the club would want to strengthen next summer, and the 20-year-old will likely be on their list of targets, even though he might not be their first choice.
