Report: Club are ‘trying to resist’ selling alleged Spurs target in January

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Sevilla are trying to resist selling rumoured Tottenham target Diego Carlos before the transfer window shuts.

Tottenham are yet to make any new signings this month and the North London club are now in a race against time to get players in, with just a week and a half left until the window slams shut.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Antonio Conte’s men are still confident of making at least two new signings before the end of the month.

According to The Telegraph, Spurs are prioritising signing a central midfielder, a right wing-back and a striker this month, with Conte prepared to wait until the summer to strengthen in central defence.

However, over recent days, Tottenham have been linked with a move for Carlos, with Spurs thought to be competing with Newcastle United for the 28-year-old (The Daily Mail).

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that the Magpies are the front-runners to snap up the Sevilla man, with Eddie Howe’s side pushing to get a deal done after agreeing on personal terms with the defender.

However, the journalist claimed that Sevilla are still trying to hold on to Carlos amidst Newcastle’s onslaught.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be surprised if Spurs signed a centre-back before the transfer window closes. I believe strengthening in midfielder and at right wing-back will likely be bigger priorities for Conte. That is why I do not expect Tanganga’s proposed loan move to AC Milan (Sky Sports) to go through.
